As Head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy in Washington, DC you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. The Head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy will lead the US Federal Government Affairs and Policy team responsible for the company’s engagement with Congress and key Executive Branch Agencies, including HHS (especially CMS) and the White House. As Head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy, you will work to ensure the team’s strategic alignment and pull-through of proactive business priorities, including in the areas of pricing, reimbursement, access, and quality, and create strategies and campaigns to optimize outcomes and defend against harmful, external policy proposals. As head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy you will represent the interests of the Federal Government Affairs & Policy team on the US Corporate Affairs Leadership Team and work collaboratively with cross functional teams. Main Duties and Responsibilities As the Head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy you will lead the development and execution of engagement strategies with Congress, CMS and other Executive Branch Agencies; work with external thought leaders; engage and demonstrate leadership with trade associations or committees with which AZ participates; demonstrate and maintain strong working relationships with key influencers (including but not limited to: Congress, HHS, the Administration, trade associations, think tanks and third party allies); participate on senior level PhRMA work groups and committees and represent the company’s interests herein; represent the company in Washington social/professional setting. Additionally, as Head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy, you will lead the Federal Government Affairs and Policy team; participate on the US Corporate Affairs Leadership Team; participate on the AZ PAC Board and represent the AZ PAC priorities and interests at internal events and activities; provide leadership within the company on federal public policy issues; ensure alignment and integration with key business objectives and strategies among all stakeholders in the company. As Head of Federal Government Affairs & Policy, you will additionally identify, analyze and act on regulatory initiatives as well as emerging issues that impact the company; act as internal thought leader and resident expert on legislative and regulatory matters and strategic decision making on public policy; understand the company’s business goals and priorities; identify emerging issues in the legislative and political environment; provide performance feedback and development support and infuse Federal Government Affairs and Policy team with “best in class” best practices. Essential Requirements Bachelor's degree Experience in the healthcare sector Experience in the pharmaceutical industry Proven ability to manage and direct a team Strong internal stakeholder and alliance building capabilities Strong interpersonal, communications (public speaking and writing) skills Strong negotiation and advocacy skills Exhaustive knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory issues and regulatory and political processes Proficiency in standard business software applications Desirable Requirements Graduate or law degree Experience in government, public policy, and/or legal Demonstrated ability to formulate strategies designed to shape the external environment to advance priorities and defeat external threats Demonstrated strong external relationships with key external stakeholders in Congress, the Executive Branch and trade associations such as PhRMA and BIO Demonstrated ability to shape the external environment through interactions with Congress and the Executive Branch, including through interactions with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Demonstrated ability to manage corporate relationships with trade associations Demonstrated ability to work in a highly matrixed corporate environment Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally Strong understanding of the activities undertaken by political action committees Strong understanding of budget activities and ability to manage budgets Demonstrated understanding of site management and leadership capabilities Next Steps – Apply today!
